PORTLAND YOUTH COLLABORATIVE COORDINATOR

Portland Site

Salaried, Full-Time position with Health Share, Dental and paid time off

The Portland Youth Collaborative is a ministry created through a partnership with Young Life Casco Bay and The Root Cellar for the sole purpose of serving and reaching middle and high school kids in the African immigrant communities of Portland, Maine.

The Portland Youth Collaborative (Young Life Casco Bay & The Root Cellar | Portland) is looking for a full-time Coordinator to lead, develop, and grow the ministry (Young Life Casco Bay & The Root Cellar) in and among the African immigrant community of Portland. This ministry will specifically focus on reaching kids at Portland and Deering High Schools as well as within specific Portland Housing Authority neighborhoods.

The demand for English classes has never been higher. Be part of a team dedicated to welcoming and empowering our new neighbors through the language of English. This position will provide day-to-day program coordination of adult English Language Learning Classes and Tutoring.

Joel is a graduate of Liberty University where he received a Bachelors of Science in Religion with a concentration in Intercultural Studies. Joel has 10+ years experience working with refugee and at - risk youth populations in Clarkson, GA and Cambridge & Boston, MA. In 2009, Joel implemented the Bridging the Gap Juvenile Diversion program in the city of Boston, serving nearly 100 juvenile offenders annually. Joel became the director of The Root Cellar in Lewiston in 2012. Joel and his lovely wife Hilary live in Wales, raising 3 beautiful, stubborn and energy filled daughters.
