Job Posting: Portland Youth Collaborative Coordinator

The Portland Youth Collaborative is a ministry created through a partnership with Young Life Casco Bay and The Root Cellar for the sole purpose of serving and reaching middle and high school kids in the African immigrant communities of Portland, Maine.

Young Life is an outreach ministry that exists to reach unchurched adolescents by: entering their world, building authentic friendships, and inviting them to be life-long followers of Jesus Christ. Young Life is active in every state across the United States, as well as 200 countries around the world. Young Life Casco Bay covers the geography of Portland, ME to Freeport, ME and everything in between, including: Westbrook, Falmouth, Cumberland, and Yarmouth.

The Root Cellar engages neighbors and volunteers to cultivate social, economic and spiritual wholeness as part of God\’s Kingdom. We believe that God has placed us in the urban centers of Maine’s largest cities and that he is empowering, uniting, and transforming our neighborhoods through the love of Christ. TRC was founded in 1984 and after 37 years of hard work and determination, The Root Cellar is as committed as ever to serving and loving our neighbors in Lewiston and Portland.

The Portland Youth Collaborative (Young Life Casco Bay & The Root Cellar | Portland) is looking for a full-time Coordinator to lead, develop, and grow the ministry (Young Life Casco Bay & The Root Cellar) in and among the African immigrant community of Portland. This ministry will specifically focus on reaching kids at Portland and Deering High Schools as well as within specific Portland Housing Authority neighborhoods.

SALARY & HOURS:

• Salary is $38,272/yr + Benefits.
• 40 hrs/week
• Position includes Monthly Program (Ministry) Expenses.
• Ministry training expenses (local & regional training) are covered by YL & TRC.

Joel is a graduate of Liberty University where he received a Bachelors of Science in Religion with a concentration in Intercultural Studies. Joel has 10+ years experience working with refugee and at - risk youth populations in Clarkson, GA and Cambridge & Boston, MA. In 2009, Joel implemented the Bridging the Gap Juvenile Diversion program in the city of Boston, serving nearly 100 juvenile offenders annually. Joel became the director of The Root Cellar in Lewiston in 2012. Joel and his lovely wife Hilary live in Wales, raising 3 beautiful, stubborn and energy filled daughters.
