Introducing - English Workshops
Exciting growth in Portland's English Language Learning Program!
The Root Cellar will begin offering English Workshops on Fridays from 1-2:30pm, starting this week on May 5th. English Workshops are a way for us to engage our growing waitlist and provide a place for students to get up to speed before entering a Beginner Class.
No registration is required for students to attend a workshop. People on the waitlist will be the first to be invited to attend workshops.
So what is a workshop and how is it different from a class?
Workshops will include a stand-alone lesson so that students who are unable to attend consistently can still understand and apply the material. Workshops still go through much of the same content as the Beginner class while placing less emphasis on review. Students who attend consistently will be given the opportunity to move into the Wednesday/Friday class or receive tutoring.
Workshops could include:
- Introducing yourself
- Calendar
- Weather & seasons
- Asking for help
- Addresses
- Telling time
How YOU can help…
We need volunteer teachers and teaching assistants to help lead workshops! Our staff will be leading the first workshop on May 5th on "Introductions".
If you are interested in leading a workshop on a particular topic or supporting the workshops on a consistent basis, please reach out! And if you know of new Beginner-level students looking to sign up for English Class, invite them to the workshop! We will make physical invitations available in the office each week.
Intermediate class volunteers: please keep an eye out for high-level students that might be interested in leading or assisting workshops as well!
