GRATITUDE instead of UNCERTAINTY

A recent pause in federal funding has been extremely challenging for many of the organizations and nonprofits that we collaborate with regularly. This has lead me to reflect and - quite literally - count our blessings.

I wanted to take a moment to make sure we communicate just how important each of you are to the work and ministry of The Root Cellar. God has seen fit show his provision and love for our neighbors through you.

The Root Cellar enjoys a very diverse and generous donor base that includes churches, private foundations, businesses and - most notably - individuals just like you. Your generous support for over 4 decades creates stability for our ministries and ultimately for our neighbors. It is your faithfulness that allows us to be nimble enough to respond to needs of our neighbors regardless of national politics and policies - year in and year out.

Your financial support allows us to focus on the work that is at hand each day: neighbors in need of physical and spiritual food, with a dream to learn English, work, and contribute to our city, a teen or child finding their place in the story that God is authoring in our cities - all this and more.

So today - in the midst of much uncertainty for so many - we find ourselves grateful for you.

Thank you for giving, praying and serving alongside our team - we truly couldn’t do it without you.

With Gratitude,

Joel Furrow, Exectutive Director

Before joining The Root Cellar's ministry in Lewiston in 2012, Joel implemented and directed the Bridging the Gap Juvenile Diversion program in Boston, MA serving nearly 100 juvenile offenders annually.

Early in this career, Joel was impacted greatly by work within refugee communities in Amman, Jordan and Clarkston, GA. He discovered God's great love for these vulnerable communities as well as the gift that refugees and immigrants offer to a welcoming city.

Joel is a graduate of Liberty University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Religion with a concentration in Intercultural Studies, Islam and Arabic. Joel and his lovely wife Hilary live in Wales, ME raising 3 beautiful, wicked smaht daughters and a baby boy.
