Portland Location Closed through Thursday, 11-19

The Root Cellar in Portland will be closed Monday 11/16, through Thursday, 11/19.

Due to exposure to COVID-19 through one of our programs, our program staff is taking the precautionary measure to quarantine as mandated by the Maine CDC Guidelines. This has left us with too few staff available staff to properly provide the Safe Learning Hub, Afterschool Programs, and other programs during this week. Friends and Neighbors Network Meeting will take place on Friday, 11/20.

At this point, the CDC is not considering this an outbreak. The impacted staff is in good health and following the recommended quarantine protocols. Anyone who has been exposed has been communicated with and has been given direction.

I want to take this moment to state that our staff and volunteers have done everything in their power to follow each guideline given by the Maine CDC. Like so many over the last few months, our team has been asked to shift, pivot and shift again in order to fulfill our mission to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves.

In many ways, this is the system working properly. Communication with our staff, volunteers, partners, and parents was swift. Our programs work in small groups to keep potential exposure to a minimum. That system worked exactly as it should in this situation.

The staff and volunteer team has preformed with exemplary form and have met each new and strange day with a faithful heart and readiness to embrace whatever comes. They have set a standard for each of us to follow, choosing to move forward with faith, hope and love.
