2 Parties to Celebrate 40 Years!

Kids from our Rooted Mentoring in Lewiston join Marvelous Kingdom Music for a song to kick the party off!

Over the last 2 weeks, we celebrated God’s faithfulness to our neighbors at beautiful events in Portland and Lewiston. We heard stories from our teens about how they have been impacted through Lew Crew teen mentoring. Elementary children sang and shared all they are learning in Rooted Afterschool and Summer Mentoring.

We were joined by neighbors, donors and volunteers - many old and many new friends of The Root Cellar.

We finished up each night together being lead in worship by several local church bands and recounted how God had demonstrated His faithfulness to our neighbors over the last 4 decades of ministry.

We are so thankful for the amazing turnout in each location, the gifts that were given, the smiles and stories shared.

In each location, we debuted a special short film, telling the story of all that God has done and how we are anticipating our ministry in the future. We can’t wait to release this online - so stay tuned for that!

Joel Furrow

Before joining The Root Cellar's ministry in Lewiston in 2012, Joel implemented and directed the Bridging the Gap Juvenile Diversion program in Boston, MA serving nearly 100 juvenile offenders annually.

Early in this career, Joel was impacted greatly by work within refugee communities in Amman, Jordan and Clarkston, GA. He discovered God's great love for these vulnerable communities as well as the gift that refugees and immigrants offer to a welcoming city.

Joel is a graduate of Liberty University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Religion with a concentration in Intercultural Studies, Islam and Arabic. Joel and his lovely wife Hilary live in Wales, ME raising 3 beautiful, wicked smaht daughters and a baby boy.
