Congrats to Sean Noe! New Program Manager in Portland

I am excited to announce that Sean Noe has accepted a promotion to Program Manager, supporting and leading our programs in Portland. Sean has served as a Program Coordinator with The Root Cellar for the past 7 years and was a volunteer for several years prior to becoming an employee.

To him, The Root Cellar is more than a place to work.

“It's family. My wife and I invited a bunch of kids, some neighborhood families, and all the staff to our wedding. Arricka, our 3 children and I live in the neighborhood, just down the hill. We find that The Root Cellar represents an extended family where all of our neighbors can belong.”

Sean notes that this new role will come with new responsibilities and challenges, but is excited for what God is doing. “I’m confident that God is using The Root Cellar to bring His Kingdom to our neighborhood. With all that has happened this pas year, our neighbors are hungry for community and some good news.”

This old photo hangs on our walls in Portland. Sean and Arricka are pictured with 3 neighborhood boys at Kennedy Park Basketball Courts.

Sean has a history of demonstrating the heart of a servant for neighbors and other staff members. This approach will set the tone for our programs in Portland, as we seek to love our neighbors and and follow the mindset of Jesus, considering others as more significant than ourselves.

This position brings with it an opportunity for change and breathing some new energy into the way things have been done over the past 36 years in Portland. “When we say we at The Root Cellar I want it to really be about neighbors, volunteers, and staff working together on mission,” says Sean. “I feel ready for this new role because of what I have seen go well but also what I have failed at and what we haven't gotten right. I think we learned a lot and are ready to link arms going forward.”

As for the future?

Sean turned to an old passage from the Prophet Zechariah. “Men and women of ripe old age will site in the streets with canes on their hands…the city streets will be filled with boys and girls there. This is what the Lord Almighty says!”

Well said.

I’m excited for this next chapter in the life of our ministry in Portland and am truly looking forward to working alongside Sean to see this vision become a reality in our Portland neighborhoods.
