Meet Naveah! MADNESS Update #3
Well, that Duke vs UNC game lived up to all of the hype! I have so much to say about this epic game (obviously), but there’s something even more important that I want you to read first.
Meet Nevaeh, a special young woman who participates in Lew Crew Teen Work Experiences at The Root Cellar in Lewiston.
Nevaeh Warner is in 10th grade and along with working at Common Grounds Café, she is a junior mentor for The Root Cellar’s after-school mentoring program, and participates in powered for life and women’s life night.
We asked Nevaeh to describe herself in three words. She responded, “I’m fun, quiet and loyal.” For fun Nevaeh enjoys singing, dancing and volleyball. She also enjoys working with Common Grounds because it’s really fun to meet new people. Nevaeh’s favorite drink on the Common Grounds menu is the Mocha.
Last year, 50 students participated in our Teen Work Experiences. They mentored, mowed lawns, planted flower boxes, lead elementary students and learned their place in the work that God is doing in our community. YOU have given so generously through MADNESS on a MISSION, creating amazing opportunities for teens just like Naveah. Thank you for giving and being part of our neighborhood!
GREATEST GAME I’VE EVER SEEN
The Duke vs UNC game had everything. Long time and retiring Coach K facing first year Coach Hubert Davis. It was back and forth throughout the game, with 19 lead changes. Each team answered every challenge. A dunk for a dunk, a three for a three. I don’t know about you, but I was pacing my entire house during this game. It was intense.
In the end, my TarHeels got it done and sent the Blue Devel’s home and Coach K into retirement!
As a lifetime UNC fan, I have so much I could say, but I’m sure I’m gonna lose a few of you if I do that! So here are just a few (completely rational and not at all-over-the-top) takeaways.
Caleb Love’s 3 to seal the win is the biggest shot in UNC history. Move over ‘82, Michael Jordan.
Hubert Davis is now the greatest Coach in UNC history. No, I don’t care if he never wins another game.
In the end, Coach K’s retirement party (both of them) were perfect. I couldn’t have dreamed up a better end to his career!
MADNESS on a MISSION Leaderboard!
Well we are down to the wire, and everything hangs on tonights game for a few of you!
Here’s a few scenarios.
IF KANSAS WINS… Dale Bollinger becomes our Champ, Tim Rogers, Senyo Ohene and Ryan Shank will round out our FINAL 4, each winning a prize!
BUT, IF UNC WINS… Drew King (current point leader) becomes our champ, Dale Bollering is runner up, Rich Clement in third, and Tim Rogers will be tied for 4th with Charlotte Furrow. Charlie is my 4 year old daughter who is the ONLY bracket that chose “The North Carolina’s” to win! She would jump from 46th to a tied up 4th place!
The bracket with the most points will have their choice of prizes prizes! The Runner Up, 3rd and 4th Place Brackets will win the remaining awesome prizes!
