Since 1984, we have been a safe space for neighborhood youth to hang out, be mentored and invest in their community. Over the years, it’s taken many forms, but our commitment to investing in the next generation of neighborhood and city leaders has never been higher.
All programs meet from 3-5pm unless otherwise posted.
For more information on any of these programs, contact Sean or Christine at 207-774-3197 or just stop by our front desk!
Mondays in the Park
May through October join us in Kennedy Park for a barbecue with food and games. In the off-season we are inside The Root Cellar playing games and eating pizza. All ages welcome.
Cooking / Baking Kids and volunteers work together to create amazing desserts which they get to eat, of course. The afternoon also includes games and sometimes a field trip to a nearby bakery. Ages 5-10 Years Old
BASKETBALL We head over to the gym at First Baptist Church and play basketball. Ages 11 and up
For the Girls! Girls Day includes lots of girl time making slime, jewelry, or other crafts or learning new skills, like how to frost a cake or create a floral centerpiece. We also have field trips to Get Air, to the local beach, or for slushies at the local 7-11. Ages 5 to 16 years old
For the Boys! Wednesday afternoons are full of running around playing scatter ball, Nerf, building things, and helping out the community with service projects. All ages welcome.
Mentors meet with mentees at The Root Cellar and spend time together locally or on short trips around the East End. If you don't have a mentor sign up in the office and Sean or Christine will help connect you to a mentor who will be hanging out with you once a week. All ages welcome.
Kid's Store is open! Kids from 5 to 16 years old sign up for jobs around The Root Cellar for which they earn Root Cellar bucks. Jobs can include sweeping, shoveling snow, raking, mopping, or wiping down tables and windows. They are then able to shop in The Root Cellar Kids' Store and purchase items for themselves or their families! Friday also includes lots of inside games, ping pong, pool, basketball and video games.
Saturday Night is Teen night
Each Saturday night from 7-10PM, we open up our Teen Center room for fun, games, movies, video games snacks and just a safe space to hang out in the neighborhood. Come on down, bring a friend or make a new one! Ages 13-18 welcome.
