Seeking a Site Director in Portland

We are seeking to fill a leadership role for our programs and ministry in the city of Portland, Maine. This is an exciting opportunity an experienced leader to develop a young and growing team, oversee thriving programs and chart the course of our work in Maine’s largest city. The Root Cellar has a 40 year history in Portland to build on, but opportunities about for innovation, creativity and pioneering new projects.

Strong candidates will have demonstrated spiritual maturity, experience serving within diverse communities and managing a growing a team, a desire to innovate, possess administrative, written and oral communication skills and an aptitude to learn.


Portland Site Director

Oversee development of The Root Cellar Portland site staff, programs, services and facilities. Develop partnerships within local area churches, civic entities and other organizations. Contribute to the fundraising efforts of the organization.

Joel Furrow

Before joining The Root Cellar's ministry in Lewiston in 2012, Joel implemented and directed the Bridging the Gap Juvenile Diversion program in Boston, MA serving nearly 100 juvenile offenders annually.

Early in this career, Joel was impacted greatly by work within refugee communities in Amman, Jordan and Clarkston, GA. He discovered God's great love for these vulnerable communities as well as the gift that refugees and immigrants offer to a welcoming city.

Joel is a graduate of Liberty University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Religion with a concentration in Intercultural Studies, Islam and Arabic. Joel and his lovely wife Hilary live in Wales, ME raising 3 beautiful, wicked smaht daughters and a baby boy.
